100t Mobile Crane Operator

St Maidstone, Kent | Ainscough Crane Hire

Bigger crane. Bigger responsibility. Serious expertise.

Operating a 100-tonne mobile crane isn’t for everyone.

It takes experience, precision, sound judgement and the confidence to make the right call when the pressure is on. Every lift has to be planned properly, every setup checked and every decision made with safety at the forefront.

At Ainscough Crane Hire, our large mobile crane operators work on some of the UK’s most complex and high-profile lifting projects. You’ll be trusted with machinery capable of lifting enormous loads — and with the responsibility that comes with it.

We’re looking for an experienced CPCS Blue Card Mobile Crane Operator with the skills and experience to operate a 100t mobile crane safely and professionally.

If you know your crane, take pride in your standards and never compromise when it comes to safety, this could be the next move for you.

Why Ainscough?

Ainscough Crane Hire is the UK’s leading crane hire company, with 30 locations nationwide and a fleet of around 400 cranes.

Our larger cranes are used across a huge variety of projects, from major construction and infrastructure developments to complex specialist lifts where precision and experience really matter.

As a large crane operator, you’ll be a key part of delivering those projects successfully.

Our Make the Safe Choice ethos is at the heart of everything we do. It means having the confidence to challenge, the judgement to make the right decision and the professionalism to never allow the pressure of a job to override safety.

We want experienced operators who understand that operating a large crane is about much more than technical ability. It’s about responsibility, communication, teamwork and pride in the job.

What you'll be doing

As a 150t Mobile Crane Operator, you’ll be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of your crane, working closely with our customers, site teams and wider Ainscough team.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Operating a 100t mobile crane safely and efficiently in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and company procedures.
  • Carrying out thorough pre-use and operational checks.
  • Setting up the crane correctly, including outriggers and supporting equipment.
  • Checking rated capacity systems and ensuring the crane is correctly configured for each lift.
  • Working from crane duty charts, lift plans, reports and relevant technical documentation.
  • Liaising with Site Managers, Project Managers, Crane Supervisors and other members of the lifting team.
  • Understanding and responding appropriately to wind and changing environmental conditions.
  • Maintaining constant awareness of the crane, load, surrounding environment and people working around you.
  • Stopping operations where conditions become unsafe or where the lift cannot be completed safely.
  • Following site requirements, road traffic regulations, company procedures and PPE requirements.
  • Carrying out the safe use and handling of equipment, including outrigger pans and other associated equipment.
  • Completing training and familiarisation on specific crane models and configurations.
  • Maintaining a high standard of crane care and ensuring all relevant documentation is completed accurately.
  • Representing Ainscough professionally on customer sites.
  • Working collaboratively with the wider lifting team to deliver safe, efficient and successful projects.
  • Continually looking for ways to improve standards, efficiency and safety.

What we're looking for

This is a role for an experienced operator who understands the level of care and concentration required when operating a large mobile crane.

You’ll need:

  • A full UK driving licence.
  • HGV Class C licence.
  • An in-date CPCS Blue Card with Mobile Crane Operator authorisation.
  • Proven experience operating large mobile cranes.
  • Experience relevant to operating a 100t mobile crane, or similar.
  • A strong understanding of crane operations, duty charts and lifting requirements.
  • Knowledge of the effects of wind and other environmental conditions on crane operations and loads.
  • A strong understanding of road traffic regulations.
  • The ability to work calmly and professionally under pressure.
  • Excellent safety awareness and the confidence to stop an operation when something doesn’t look right.
  • A professional and customer-focused approach.

More than technical ability

We’re looking for operators who take genuine pride in their work.

You’ll understand that when you’re operating a crane of this size, people are relying on your experience and judgement. You’ll be someone who checks twice, communicates clearly and never takes a shortcut when safety is involved.

That’s what makes a great Ainscough operator.

What we offer

We want our people to build long-term careers with Ainscough, and we recognise the experience and expertise that our operators bring.

You’ll receive:

  • 24 days annual leave, increasing by an additional day after 2 and 5 years’ service, and every 5 years thereafter.
  • Group life assurance of 2 x basic salary.
  • Pension – 4% employer contribution and 5% employee contribution.
  • Online access to payslips, holidays and personal information.
  • Access to Ainscough Advantage, our employee benefits platform.
  • Ongoing training and development opportunities.
  • The opportunity to work on major and technically challenging lifting projects across the UK.
  • The support of an experienced national team who understand what it takes to deliver complex lifting operations safely.

Make the Safe Choice. Join Ainscough.

You’ve got the experience to operate one of the biggest machines on site.

Now work for a company that values the skill, judgement and responsibility that comes with it.

If you’re ready for your next challenge, we want to hear from you.
