Apprentice Crane Mechanic (4 year program)

Ainscough Crane Hire are now recruiting for their successful Crane Mechanic Apprenticeship.

You will assist the Maintenance Supervisor and Crane Technicians with servicing, repairs and breakdown maintenance of cranes to meet agreed service levels and standards.

Training Requirements

  • Attend and participate in all classes at Myerscough College (Preston, North West England) as required in accordance with the CITB Construction Skills apprenticeship policies and regulations. This includes blocks of 1 and 2 weeks away from home on a residential at the college.
  • Achieve NVQ Level 1 in functional skills certificate in English, Mathematics & Communications in first year
  • Achieve NVQ level 2 Plant Maintenance in second year
  • Achieve NVQ level 3 Plant Maintenance in third year
  • Complete 4th year (improver year)
  • Undertake other requests as required to be successful within the Ainscough network

As an apprentice you will:

  • Assist workshop staff with preventative maintenance and servicing for all cranes
  • Properly maintain materials, tools and equipment
  • Assist in the securing and lockup of vehicles that are under workshop control
  • Ensure cleaning and keeping the mechanical workshops and surrounds tidy
  • Learn to program the service schedule for all depot fleet
  • Assist with maintaining daily records of plant labour and materials used.
  • Assist with the planning and procurement of materials and consumables as required
  • Perform servicing and repairs on cranes within the workshop
  • Accurately maintain service records for each crane detailing all faults, repairs, service dates etc.
  • Provide technical advice to ensure shortest possible downtime for vehicles
  • Maintain health and safety standards at all times
  • Schedule machine/ vehicle time with the operations department in order to carry out repairs and/or maintenance to equipment
  • Secure necessary materials and parts for the work in good time, ordering/ chasing from supplier’s if necessary
