Role Overview

 

This new role for the South East plays a key role in achieving company objectives by managing depot resources efficiently and cost-effectively, while strictly adhering to company policies and procedures. This role is focused on delivering exceptional customer service in a demanding environment, maintaining the highest standards of health and safety, and supporting the Area Operations Manager in meeting business goals and KPIs. A crucial aspect of the position is providing a strong operational presence on work sites, ensuring effective leadership and execution of operational priorities.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Support the Area Operations Manager in developing depot business performance, achieving sales and profit targets, and driving continuous improvement.
  • Maintain strong customer relationships through regular site visits, ensuring a high-quality service and proactive issue resolution.
  • Promote and monitor compliance with health, safety, quality, and brand standards through regular depot and site inspections, interactions, and reporting.
  • Oversee depot operations including personnel management, training, recruitment, and adherence to company policies, procedures, and disciplinary processes.
  • Ensure vehicles are maintained, certified, and available for hire through visual checks and adherence to legal and company standards.
  • Provide leadership support across the depot network, covering for Depot Managers during absences, assisting during resource or operational pinch points, and participating in the on-call schedule.
  • Contribute to the delivery of area KPIs, ensure consistency across depots, and escalate or resolve issues proactively in collaboration with Depot Managers and the AOM.
  • Represent the company at high-level meetings and undertake additional duties as required by management.

 

Person Specification

 

Education / Knowledge / Experience

  • Minimum GCSE or equivalent in Maths & English - Desirable
  • A levels/Degree – Desirable
  • 2-years Management experience in a commercial business
  • People Management and health & safety management
  • Proven track record of working to clearly defined service level agreements and managing a profit and loss therefore being commercially minded, ability to sell the business
  • Evidence of delivery of continuous improvement within a customer service environment Experience in dealing with HR issues such as Disciplinaries/Grievance
  • Local geographical knowledge
  • Good transport / logistics knowledge
  • Knowledge and understanding of the requirements of working within a time critical service environment
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation

 

Skills & Abilities

  • IT literate – comfortable using systems Excel/Word/PowerPoint
  • Ability to influence and persuade and have flexibility.
  • Ability to deal with conflict and negotiate / manage the appropriate outcome.
  • Good time management skills
  • Organised with the ability to simplify complex issues
  • Able to able to communicate at all levels, both in verbal & written form.
