Trainee Mobile Crane Operator – Dundee

A career as a Mobile Crane Operator doesn’t come around every day. This could be your opportunity to build one.

Ainscough Crane Hire is looking for a Trainee Mobile Crane Operator to join our Dundee team.

This is a highly sought-after opportunity to start a career in one of the most skilled areas of the lifting industry, with fully funded CPCS training and a clear pathway from Slinger Signaller to Mobile Crane Operator.

You’ll join us initially as a Slinger Signaller, completing your CPCS Slinger Signaller training shortly after joining. From there, you’ll progress into the Trainee Operator programme, developing the skills, knowledge and experience needed to operate mobile cranes safely and professionally.

This is a training opportunity — but it is a serious commitment.

Because of the significant investment we make in developing our Trainee Crane Operators, a Training Agreement must be signed before training is arranged.

We’re looking for people who are serious about building a long-term career with Ainscough, who take pride in their work and who understand that becoming a skilled crane operator takes commitment, discipline and a genuine focus on safety.

What you’ll need

To be considered, you must already hold a full HGV Class 2 (Class C) licence.

We’re particularly interested in people with experience of:

  • Large plant or heavy equipment
  • HIAB or similar lifting equipment
  • Other technically demanding machinery
  • Working safely within a regulated environment

You’ll also need a full driving licence, a good understanding of road traffic regulations and, most importantly, the right attitude towards safety and learning.

Previous crane operating experience is not required — that’s what the training is for.

What you’ll get

  • Fully funded CPCS Slinger Signaller training
  • Fully funded Mobile Crane training
  • A structured pathway from Slinger Signaller to Trainee Mobile Crane Operator
  • 24 days’ annual leave, increasing with length of service
  • Group Life Assurance – 2 x basic salary
  • Pension – 4% employer contribution / 5% employee contribution

What you’ll be doing

As you progress through your training, you’ll learn how to safely prepare, set up and operate mobile cranes across a range of customer sites and lifting operations.

You’ll develop your knowledge and practical skills around:

  • Safe crane set-up and operation
  • Outriggers, lifting equipment and crane documentation
  • Rated Capacity Indicators and Limiters
  • Manufacturer’s instructions and duty charts
  • Working safely around other site personnel
  • The impact of wind and other environmental conditions
  • Road traffic regulations
  • Identifying and stopping unsafe operations
  • Crane-specific operating procedures, rigging and maintenance
  • Working professionally with customers and site teams

Safety comes first at every stage. You’ll be expected to follow procedures, ask questions, learn from experienced operators and have the confidence to stop an operation if it isn’t safe.

Our Always Make the Safe Choice ethos is at the heart of everything we do. We expect our people to work safely, take pride in what they do and continually look for ways to improve.

Ready to take the next step?

If you already hold your HGV Class 2 licence and you're looking for more than just another driving job, this could be the opportunity you've been waiting for.

Places on our Trainee Crane Operator programme are limited and competition is high.

If you have the licence, the attitude and the ambition to build a career as a Mobile Crane Operator, we want to hear from you.
