You will work closely with depots, operational managers, drivers, workshop teams and external suppliers. You will be a key point of expertise and guidance, helping to ensure our transport operation remains safe, legal, compliant and continually improving.

What will you be responsible for?

You will take ownership of the Operating Licence and the systems and processes that underpin it, including:

  • Managing driver compliance, Drivers' Hours and Working Time Directive requirements.
  • Using tachograph analysis and vehicle telematics to monitor driver performance, driving style, safety and efficiency.
  • Ensuring driver infringements are investigated, recorded and appropriately escalated.
  • Overseeing fleet maintenance in line with Operating Licence and company requirements.
  • Keeping up to date with changes in transport legislation and industry requirements, advising the business accordingly.
  • Leading investigations and reporting of accidents and incidents.
  • Conducting audits and spot inspections across drivers, PPE, vehicles and equipment.
  • Ensuring legal, health & safety and industry-specific training is planned and delivered effectively.
  • Supporting recruitment and delivering new starter inductions.
  • Managing the onboarding and compliance of subcontractors, including audit activity.
  • Supporting operational performance through KPI and management information analysis.
  • Working collaboratively with the wider business to deliver a high standard of service to both customers and colleagues.

The role also includes being on call on a rota basis, supporting the operational function when required.

What we're looking for

You'll need:

  • A valid driving licence.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships across a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • The ability to work independently, make sound decisions and take ownership.
  • Flexibility to meet the operational requirements of the role.

A Rewarding Package

We recognise and reward the contribution you make, with a comprehensive benefits package including:

  • Company car or car allowance
  • Generous annual leave, with additional days for service milestones and the option to purchase additional holidays
  • Private healthcare and travel cover

Why Ainscough?

You'll have the opportunity to shape standards, influence operational performance and provide leadership across a complex, nationally operated transport function. You'll be trusted to protect the integrity of our Operating Licence, champion compliance and help drive continuous improvement across the department.

At Ainscough, safety comes first. We expect our people to make the safe choice, be reliable, work as one team, remain open to new ideas and take pride in what they do.
